Things we know and love about Tom Ford: He does things on his own terms, and he makes really, really nice clothes.
His Spring/Summer 2017 collection marries these two qualities fabulously. The lineup is signature Ford: luxe, top-quality materials, slim cut, wear-anywhere. Gentlemen, these are pieces to invest in and wear over and over again (and not just at the races!).
The other remarkable thing is that, unlike the traditional practice where designers release a collection only to have it unavailable to buy for months, Tom Ford is experimenting with a see-now, buy-now model. You can already purchase the collection here.
Unfortunately for the experiment though, it seems to not have had the desired results. This is the last collection that Ford is releasing on the see-now, buy-now model: The luxury designer is returning to New York Fashion Week in September to show his Spring/Summer 2018 on the regular schedule. But at least we know Ford doesn’t follow rules for the sake of following rules.
Back to the collection. The lookbook gives off a rakishly elegant Hollywood vibe, which feels like “a mashup of Cary Grant, Warren Beatty, Robert Redford, Steve McQueen, and Mick Jagger all rolled into one.” Somehow, Ford manages to update the old-school movie star into cutting-edge current, but without all the garish ostentatiousness.
The trench coats and bomber jackets are just in time for autumn, as well.
See for yourself.
