The sweltering humidity outside shows no signs of abating as the autumn racing calendar starts to heat up. The Blue Diamond Stakes is also less than three weeks away — are you ready with your best bets?

Before anything else, let me welcome you back to Track Mode, the top destination for Australia’s racing elite. You’ll notice that we’ve been away on a long break, but I’m happy to report that it’s not been idle. Besides spending loads of quality time with my family, we’ve just come back from New Zealand for the Karaka Yearling Sales, where a total of $58 million (whew!) was spent on some of the best horses money can buy.

As if the sales weren’t exciting enough: While there, I watched on TV as Portman, a horse I co-own with Sheikh Fahad Al-Thani, won at Flemington! Talk about setting the tone for the rest of the year! I’m going to take this as a portent of good things to come.

The Blue Diamond Stakes will be run on Saturday, February 25, 2017 by two-year-olds over a distance of 1,200 metres at Caulfield Racecourse. With a total purse of $1.5 million, this is Victoria’s richest race for two-year-olds.

This race is unique in that it has two major lead-up races divided by gender: the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies and the Blue Diamond Prelude for colts. Both of these races will be held this Saturday, February 11, 2017, with prize money of $200,000 each.

Other races to watch out for in the autumn season are the Australian Cup, which happens on March 11, 2017 at Flemington. This is a weight-for-age race with a $1.5 million purse. That same day, the Newmarket Handicap will be run, with prize money of $1.25 million.

To help you look your absolute best, I will, as usual, have a Blue Diamond Stakes fashion edit soon. Watch out for it!
