We’re well ahead of schedule, but we’re already seeing indications of where spring racing carnival fashion is headed. This season, it seems like, we’ll be seeing a lot of pastels on spring racing dresses.
Just over a week ago, department store David Jones launched their Spring/Summer 2016 collection, with almost 60 designers on show.
Christopher Esber, Ginger & Smart, Camilla and Marc, Carla Zampatti, and a slew of others showcased all-white collections.
This is nothing new, because white and other light colours are summer staples because of the heat. This season, however, does have its identifying crime marks.
According to Damian Burke, womenswear’s general manager, this season is “underpinned by that earthy, natural colour palette.”
Brace yourselves for a bit of skin as well, because according to Burke, “every girl is going to be showing some shoulder this summer.”
Perhaps the elements that stood out the most, and characterised the whole show, were those from Zimmermann. The pastel frocks had touches of sweetly feminine Victorian charm: loose long sleeves and high, intricate collars, some of the fabric featuring brocade-like patterns, and some sheen.
If this is what spring racing dresses are going to be like, then I’m all for it.
Another champion of the pastel movement this season is none other than headwear genius Viktoria Novak. In her latest collection for Myer, she showcases leather flowers in shades of light turquoise, lilac, blush, and other pastels.
For those wanting bolder hues, worry not. Viktoria Novak also has designs in strawberry red, black, and metallics.
I seriously can’t wait until Myer launches their Spring collection next month. Also, watch out for our Spring Carnival special feature — it’s coming out really soon! Lots of interviews with horse racing personalities and of course, tons of features on spring racing carnival fashion.
