Dress to Impress

COUTURE-GIAMBATTISTA-VALLI-AW14-2

It’s only August but guess what, I have my Spring Carnival dresses all sorted!  You’re probably wondering why on earth when Spring/Summer styles haven’t even hit our shelves?!  Here’s why…  With so many fashion images exposed on Instagram these days I have found it difficult to find a dress which hasn’t been seen on an infinite number of girls already!  This is why I have turned to international designers.  On my  trips to Europe (which I time well with sales each time I go)  I am able to buy international designer dresses at a fraction of the price of some of Australian designers.  Now don’t get me wrong, I love Australian designers but when did it become ok to charge $2400 for a dress?!!

For someone like me who is married to a horse trainer and goes to each and every day of the Spring Carnival at both Caulfield and Flemington I cannot justify spending that much on one dress, let alone on 5 or 6 dresses!!!  Most of us associate hefty price tags when it comes to designer dresses but with so many online shopping avenues a designer dress can be easily attainable.  For instance both MYER and David Jones these days stock international designers and at sale time you can be sure to pick yourself up a bargain!  My other favourite places to shop are online boutiques such as The Outnet, Shopbop and Moda Operandi.

So if you’re like me and you want to wear something original make sure you check out some of the online stores with an added bonus being  heavily reduced price tags this time of the year!

And keep an eye out for my Spring Carnival Edits over the next few weeks.  I will be working closely with milliners and stylists to bring you the latest trends for this Spring Racing season.

Nina I appreciate your feedback on expensive frocks, especially when you need to pair it with shoes, millinery, accessories etc etc over the entire carnival, it can be a costly exercise. Would dearly love more “tips” on how to achieve that “now” look without investing in something I can only wear to one meeting…ps that Dolce & Gabbana blue and white is stunning!!

Well thank you for your comment Nicole. I will sure keep you up to date over the coming weeks with “it” looks for this Spring racing season. Without breaking the bank you can team up a dress with different accessories for a completely different look. And with so many stunning head pieces around this season you too can be a show stopper!

  • Hi Nina,

I admire your writing and your frank business like approach to racewear.

I am a sole trader milliner myself and give personal service to a discerning clientele. The making of hats is in fact the last bastion of personal expression of dressing and demands an understanding between milliner and client.

I believe in the real race going woman and support her style aspirations.
