For a lot of us, a wedding is going to be the closest we’ll get to living out a fairytale. This is exactly why bridal gowns are frothy concoctions made up of rainbows, unicorn glitter, and the daydreams of 6-year-old girls. Make no mistake, however — weddings are adult business, something wedding dress designers take very seriously. Here are the ones to watch out for at Australian Bridal Fashion Week 2016.
Based in Tel Aviv, Galia Lahav Haute Couture has had over 30 years of experience designing the dreamiest wedding dresses you ever saw. The “Le Secret Royal” collection shoot was straight out of a fairytale book.
New City-based Hayley Paige embodies “sweet femininity with a touch of edginess.” Just the perfect balance, I think.
Catherine R Couture
Homegrown designer Catherine R Couture operates their dream factory right out of Melbourne. Catherine’s firm belief in the philosophies of yoga is reflected in her work, which show the beauty and simplicity of nature and creation.
Luom Ousby hails from New Zealand and is now based in Sydney. At 10 years old, she was already “constructing a pair of black polka dot silk pants with exaggerated triangular pockets.” She founded her own brand in 2004 and started creating wedding dresses the same year.
Tel Aviv-based Inbal Dror is one of the best-known bridal gown designers not only in Israel but the whole world. Much of her experience is in Milan, and her extremely in-demand creations are distributed by the most exclusive retailers all over the world.
Hailing from the Philippines, Monique Lhuillier is now one of the most well-known and well-regarded bridal designers in the world. She is frequently mentioned in the same breath as Vera Wang, Reem Acra, and Jenny Packham.
Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad is also one of the powerhouses not just of the bridal space, but also the fashion world in general. He is well-known for designing elaborate gowns which are, in his own words, “not for an ordinary wedding.”
Besides bridal gowns, Australian Bridal Fashion Week will also feature shoes and accessories, plus other suppliers including caterers, flowers, and DJs. The event starts Friday, 24th of June.
