Ever wondered how the likes of Lisa Messenger, Melissa Ambrosini and Lorna Jane manage to achieve so much in one day? They have the same amount of time as us, yet they appear to have an endless supply of hours up their sleeve, with all the amazing things they do! The one thing you will find in common with these successful leaders, entrepreneurs and savvy business women, is that they all begin their day in the same way: with a morning routine.

The purpose of having a morning routine is to guarantee the day ahead is productive and efficient. They provide every person, no matter how tired or stressed they are, with clarity and purpose.

Here are five practical steps you can start incorporating into your morning routine, to help you get the most out of your day.

1.Despite what many believe, you don’t need hours to do this. As little as 5-10 minutes of meditation when you first wake up, can make the world of difference to your day. Meditation shifts your focus, calms your mind and body and creates a sense of clarity. This will help determine what is important and what needs to be left at home. If meditation is something you struggle to do, try this beginners meditation app called 1 Giant Mind.

2.Seven minute round of stretching. This is a great way to loosen your muscles, wake up the body and get the blood flowing, after a long night’s sleep.

3.Nourish your body. Start your day with a green smoothie:

  • 1 tablespoon of Apple Cidar Vinegar and lemon juice
  • A handful of  spinach
  • 1/4 of an avocado
  • 1 stick of celery will provide your body with some much needed nutrients to start the day.

4.Write a list of the top three things you want to achieve that day. These are what you should focus on and exert your energy into. If something does not make the top three, then your time and energy throughout the day should not be put into it! To ensure a sense of achievement make sure you do not begin to tackle other tasks, until these three have been accomplished.

5.Last, but not least, take a moment to feel appreciation and gratitude. Often we fly through life on auto-pilot and forget to look at what we have and who is around us. We forget to embrace the moment that is gratitude. Before you rush out the door and scurry to work, stop for a minute, take a deep breath and think of all the things in your life that make you happy. That way, no matter how your day unfolds, you have at least taken a moment to acknowledge and be grateful.
