Most of us, particularly those in Melbourne, have well and truly got Winter fatigue by the middle of August. It just never seems to end. One of the first signs that Spring may soon be upon us is the re-emergence of some of our best racehorses around this time of year. Fortunately this Saturday is one of those days.
In Sydney we will see the return as a 3yo of last season’s unbeaten Golden Slipper winner  Vancouver in the San Domenico Stakes. There is always a query on whether the Slipper winner will come back next season and produce and the last two years we have been disappointed by Mossfun and Overreach. However the two before that Pierro and Sepoy did the opposite and were also Gr1 winners as 3yo. Lets hope Vancouver is boom not bust as there is a lot at stake for him. Especially as he was syndicated for a rumoured $40 million after the Slipper!
I will be heading out to Caulfield to watch a few of Danny’s Spring hopefuls open their campaigns. Last years Derby runner-up Bondeiger and Geelong Cup winner Caravan Rolls On begin their march towards the Cups at the end of the Spring. Whilst he also has a lovely 3yo colt named Ragazzo del Corsa that is running in the Vain Stakes. It will be cold out at the track, but if these horses run well the rush of excitement will keep me going till Spring!
